Yard Waste
Burning of yard waste is prohibited within the City. Brush and yard waste are picked up beginning the first Monday of every month. Options for more frequent pickup include weekly pick up by:
- BFI, 388-3300
- Miller Road Transfer Station, 388-3346
- Kalamazoo Landscape Supply, 375-8000
- 100th Street Landfill, 616-877-4192
LOOSE LEAVES
Public Works designates two "rounds" of pick up dates in the autumn for loose leaves on curbed streets only (but not on M-89). The scheduling of loose leaf pick up varies somewhat each year because weather determines when trees become dormant and each tree species has its own timetable for leaf fall. The designated dates are published in the Union Enterprise and Shoppers Guide in October. Both before and after the advertised loose leaf pick up dates, your leaves and other yard debris must be bagged and placed out according to the rules for regular monthly pick up. Because of loose leaf fires in past years, residents are strongly urged to wet down any loose leaf piles in streets adjoining their property each evening preceding Halloween.
