For your convenience, if you need to drop off a payment after regular office hours, there is a drive-up drop box by the parking area of Fannie Pell Park off North Main, near City Hall.  Payments received in the drop box after 5:00 pm on the tax due date are considered late.

The City accepts partial payments on taxes. Senior citizens (age 62 with an annual income under $40,000) may be eligible for tax deferment (a later due date) by completing forms available with the City Treasurer for the current tax year. These forms must be renewed every year.

All personal property taxes are payable to “City of Plainwell” at City Hall. If your business is closed or closing, you must contact the City Assessor at 269‑685‑6821 to have your name removed from the tax roll, so no additional taxes are assessed to the parcel.

When buying a residence, please be sure to complete and submit your Property Transfer Affidavit and/or Primary Residence Exemption (PRE) Affidavit in order to receive your Primary Residence Exemption (formerly known as the Homestead Exemption). These forms should be completed at the time of closing but extra affidavits are available on the download page. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
