Home Ownership and Repair Incentives

The City of Plainwell, in partnership with the Allegan County Resource Development Committee Inc. is pleased to announce that the City of Plainwell was selected by the Housing and Urban Development's CDBG program, to participate in a Home Rehabilitation and Emergency Repairs Program.

The program is only available on owner occupied homes to income-eligible home owners in the cities of Plainwell and Fennville. Up to $35,000 is available at 0% interest deferred. There are no monthly payments and the loan becomes due when the home is sold, you move out, refinance, obtain an additional mortgage or pass away. The program is available to income-eligible home owners, at or below 80% median income. This is determined by annual gross income and the number of persons in your home. Eligible home rehabilitation is determined through a thorough home inspection and may or may not include correcting overcrowding, local codes or energy efficiency. No remodeling! Emergency repairs are addressed by code violations and the fact there is a threat to health and safety and may include reconstruction or replacement of house systems and handicap accessibility. Pre-application

Repair loans and grants are also available to low-income individuals in Plainwell. Very low-income families can receive up to $20,000 in a loan, with repayment terms up to 20 years, depending on their available income to repay the loan. The interest rate is 1%. Grants of up to $7,500 and loan/grant combinations are available to applicants who are 62 years or older and show repayment ability. Click here to read more and apply.
