The City of Plainwell is a full service city seeking its next Finance Director/Treasurer to join our energetic and collaborative team. You will be responsible for managing the city’s finances and overseeing a diverse array of responsibilities crucial to municipal operations. Following the example of steadfast adherence to the GAAP set by the outgoing Finance Director/Treasurer, you will play a pivotal role in strategically moving the city forward alongside the members of our leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all financial operations of the city, including budget development, payroll, accounting, tax billing/collection, utility billing, and investments.
- Supervise and provide leadership to departmental staff, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations and compliance with city policies.
- Develop and administer the annual budget in partnership with the City Manager and department heads.
- Oversee capital asset control, debt administration, and project/grant accounting.
Prepare comprehensive financial reports and present findings to the City Manager and City Council.
- Ensure compliance with Charter and Ordinance requirements related to treasury functions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, business administration, public administration, or related field required.
- 3-5 years of public sector accounting experience; ability to be bonded.
- Preferred qualifications include 1-3 years in a supervisory role, a master’s degree or CPA credential, and experience with BS&A accounting applications.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with elected officials and department heads in governmental accounting, budgeting, and fiscal management.
