Salary:  $82,000 - $92,000
The City of Plainwell is a full service city seeking its next Finance Director/Treasurer to join our energetic and collaborative team. You will be responsible for managing the city’s finances and overseeing a diverse array of responsibilities crucial to municipal operations. Following the example of steadfast adherence to the GAAP set by the outgoing Finance Director/Treasurer, you will play a pivotal role in strategically moving the city forward alongside the members of our leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage all financial operations of the city, including budget development, payroll, accounting, tax billing/collection, utility billing, and investments.
  2. Supervise and provide leadership to departmental staff, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations and compliance with city policies.
  3. Develop and administer the annual budget in partnership with the City Manager and department heads.
  4. Oversee capital asset control, debt administration, and project/grant accounting.
    Prepare comprehensive financial reports and present findings to the City Manager and City Council.
  5. Ensure compliance with Charter and Ordinance requirements related to treasury functions.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, business administration, public administration, or related field required.
  2. 3-5 years of public sector accounting experience; ability to be bonded.
  3. Preferred qualifications include 1-3 years in a supervisory role, a master’s degree or CPA credential, and experience with BS&A accounting applications.
  4. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with elected officials and department heads in governmental accounting, budgeting, and fiscal management.
